Confined in the Aegean Sea, with a wish for a better life

When and why did you leave your country?

In 2018 due to war and explosions in my area

Where did you start your journey?

In Iraq, Baghdad

Which countries did you travel through?

Syria, Lebanon, Cyprus, Turkey

Why did you choose this country rather than another country?

It was not a choice; Greece is for me a country of transit to go to Germany

What was your principal difficulty once you arrived in the host country?

Being afraid for my life because of the police and the cold as I was sleeping in a park.

Do you have a job?

Yes, I work illegally as an assistant painter.

Do you have local friends

No, and I do not want to.

What do you like most in the host country?

I like the weather and that there is no war here.

What do you do in your spare time?

I hang out with some Iraqi people, drinking beers.

What do you want to do in host city?

I want to leave Greece; there is nothing I would like to do on Lesvos Island.

What do you think will help newcomers?

Safe accommodation for everyone and a contact person that will help them with the legal stuff.

What do you miss about your country?

My family and my friends, many of them are still there and I hope they are still alive.
